Mōrena, and happy Tuesday!
A riddle for you: what’s hotter than climate change? It turns out Take the Jump volunteers from the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum have the answers…

What a great reminder of how much fun we can have with climate action!
Here’s some more good climate news for your Tuesday:
Agrivoltaics (solar panels on farms) are taking the country by storm! Next step: electric farms 🐑
Charging points for 225 electric vehicles have been added, and fast charging points for another 173 vehicles was announced in April
According to the International Energy Agency, nearly one in five cars sold in 2023 was electric, a 35 percent year-on-year increase
Auckland has two new Bike Burbs in Hobsonville and West Harbour, bringing the number of community-led groups advocating for safe cycling to 37
Our workshops made the news and the national radio! 🎉
What can we do today?
The most-clicked link from last week’s issue was the petition to Tell the new UK government to scrap the anti-protest laws, which is now nearly at 100,000 signatures!
🐝 5 minutes: AirNZ grounding their ambitions
Our national airline, Air New Zealand, was the first national carrier to pull out of its 2030 climate targets. While realistic climate targets are important, it’s incredibly disappointing to see our nation’s biggest airline just give up and offer no replacement actions.
Action: Email Air New Zealand asking them to stick to science-based targets.
🐇 15 minutes: Increase our ambition not emissions
Scientists have raised concerns about the second Emissions Reduction Plan meeting our targets, including internationally in The Guardian. The Ministry for the Environment’s own analysis admits that “emissions are expected to be above budget for the second emissions budget”. We have a critical two week window to let the government know that we want to meet our targets.
Action, due 21 Aug: Submit on the Emissions Reduction Plan with our submission guide or use Don’t Subsidise Pollution’s quick guide focussed on ending free carbon credits for big polluters.
Bonus action: Gather submissions in your community with this guide. You can join a webinar on Tuesday 6 August 7:30 - 8:30pm for ideas (Zoom link here)
💃🏽 30+ minutes: Jump to it!
Take the Jump is a global movement with the aim of promoting high-impact lifestyle change (i.e. not just recycling) with a joyful, abundance-focussed message. They are now looking for new ambassadors to spread the word in your community. The next ambassador training course is six Wednesday evenings, 7pm - 8:30pm from 21 Aug – 25 Sep via Zoom.
Action: Sign up for a free ambassador training.
That’s all for today, folks 👋🏽 Thanks for taking action. Enjoy more of the amazing billboard campaign images from Take the Jump by jumping onto their socials: Instagram, Facebook.
