I’m doing a PhD looking into transport policymaking networks and processes, from a public health perspective (which of course includes climate impacts). Always happy to connect with anyone interested in similar! Just send me a PM 🙂
Sadly, the mix of impacts on public tend transport doesn't stop with cutting funding for electric buses. The Wellington regional recently agreed to a whole slew of other cuts and deferred improvements with the prospect of substantial fare increases. Anything we do to show support for public transport is worth doing.
I love your optimism! I try to infuse it in those challenging discussions with folk whose idea of flourishing communities, clean air, accessible transport, and to being able to provide for our tamariki, involve rigid controls or industry support that actually curtails these commonalities we all want regardless of who we vote for. Phew!
It's a complex line to tread, for sure - it's interesting to see how people come to these views, and I'm sure I have some blindspots as well in my reasoning... I'm glad you enjoyed the newsletter Bronwyn :)
We have just watched David Attenborough’s Ocean . What is the best campaign to join and donate to in order to ensure that the NZ Government signs the International treaty this week to protect 30% of our oceans from fishing?
Love this poem - energy to get to my day’s work researching into how we might fly upwards from this bog of dire decision making
It's one of my faves! Very cool to hear that your day-to-day work is around this, always keen to hear more if you want to share :)
